Summer’19
131 North, with the windows down
The stereo so loud, traffic didn’t make a sound
Hypnotized in a cloudless blue sky,
As two and a half hours passed me by;
Butterflies could not fly this high, this free.
Summer’s horizon danced on my golden skin,
And wind cooled my teeth.
Getting closer and closer, to your embrace
Tucked away in the strongest arms; I knew, there I could stay.
You’re all I wanted, everything I needed
So I chased you, like nothing in the world could come between us;
Not even miles of burning black asphalt.
Driving a few hours, used to feel like forever.
Singing to albums to help time pass,
Watching the changes in the sky; focusing in on the dimming sunlight.
Anything to keep you close in mind,
Blue and green, purple to pink – it all reminded me of you.
“I cannot feel this way so soon” were the words, I sang along to.
This is far too good to be true; I’d say out loud, in hope to ground my spiraling wings,
But my love for you only grew, while time on the highway flew.
Hand out of the window, my hair twisting around
Climbing up Michigans mountains, holding on
Too close now;
Dusting the valleys with the purest tunes,
Ready to spend a weekend away with you.
8o then 90 miles per hour, Old wheels losing to my racing heart,
Praying not to pass a cop on the way,
The sky was black but your lights were on, as I ran up the drive
Stepping into your kiss
Finally in the arms, I found rest in.
- Too good to be true.
