Remember Me

Michigan, December 2019

Michigan, December 2019

Remember those nights, filled with laughter;

Makeshift dinners and tiny kitten claws.

Remember our future, like our lilac trophies.

Coffee beans, maple, and smoke.

Swinging under stars while hopping bars;

May the memory of us linger on, like

Your favorite songs.

When you were proud of who I was, and

How I could never get enough.

Love, like butterflies.

Paris and the sea, remember me;

How you’d kiss me and I’d watch you sleep,

The warmth of the sun,

and your baggy white tees.

Tequila, bonfires, and cuddles till dawn.

Where I laid on your chest, underneath;

The eagle’s nest.

I would’ve loved to die in your arms,

Raise goats and have a farm.

It’s hard to hold onto something, so far gone.

Our babies, sleeping in my memory;

Take my hand, and I’ll give you all of me.

A promise, you never meant to keep.

Mistakenly; remember who I tried to be.
